Nova Net Computer Lab Open to Public

 

The Nova Net Computer Lab located at the Union Academy Family Center is open Monday thru Friday from 9am - 6pm for the general public.  The lab is sponsored by the WorkNet Pinellas and offers individualized learning with a curriculum to increase learning and to assess interest for future employment. 

Components include: basic skill development, ESL, GED Preparation, FCAT preparation, middle school preparation, high school preparation, school-to-work preparation and post secondary preparation.

Child Care 

Coordinated Child Care - A subsidized child care agency for Pinellas County residents and WAGES  clients.  A counselor is available on site.  Call (727) 943-7430 or (727) 546-5668 for an appointment

 

CAP After-School Program - provides after school care, homework assistance and tutoring for children grades K-12.  Parents are required to attend one meeting per month.  Space is limited. Call (727) 934-5881 ext. 0 for more information.

Counseling

Resource  Center for Women - provides counseling, personal development, career development, parenting skills for women who are divorced, widowed, separated, single mothers, grandparents, or with a spouse who is physically, mentally, or substance abusive.  Call  (727) 586-1110 for more information.  No personnel on site.

Family Service Centers - North County Community Resource Team - provides information, resources, education and various support and counseling services for children and families.  To schedule an appointment and for more information call Christina Tomack at  (727) 536-1817 ext. 161.  No personnel on site.

Education 

Even Start - provides a full-time ABE/GED program for parents of children, birth through eight years of age , who are seeking their GED or are working on basic literacy skills.  Instruction includes classes in employability training, parenting discussion groups,  joint parent and child activities.  Daytime and evening classes are available.  Call Nancy Sigmon at 942-5498 to enroll.  

Keith Bergstrom Scholarships - These scholarship are in honor of a the late Tarpon Springs Police Chief, Keith Bergstrom.  The Chief was very active in programs that involved youth.  Eligibility requirements include academic achievement and community service. Contact our office for an application.  Application due date in mid-April.

SAT Prep Classes - These classes are available at least once a year for students interested in improving their SAT scores. Contact CAP office for scheduled classes. 

Minority Student Awards - Each year CAP honors the academic achievements of minority students in local schools.  This event is usually held the end of May or the beginning of June.  Students are referred to CAP by their respective schools.

Family Aide

Florida Department of Children and Family Services - formerly known as HRS is the agency that oversees the State Welfare or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program.  For more information, call the Clearwater office at 469-4168 to schedule an appointment at the center.  Please note that DCF is undergoing many changes at this time in their delivery of services.  Please contact the Clearwater office for application procedures.

Job Placement

Worknet Pinellas - Satellite One-Stop Office  (formerly  Jobs & Benefits Office) - assist persons seeking employment, career counseling, referral to training, and/or unemployment compensation. WorkNet Pinellas - Welfare Transition Program -  provides work readiness training, job development, job placement assistance, and coordination of support services for families and individuals that are recipients of welfare.  Call (727) 938-4403 or 442-8827 Clearwater for more information.

Parenting

Family Night Out  - A support group for parents of children ages 0-5 years of age held monthly.  Program includes parent/child interaction, parenting skills, and social activities. A free dinner is served to the families.  Contact Julianna Day at  (727) 934-5881 ext. 24 for more information.

Florida First Start - parenting program for parents with children ages 3 and under. Special emphasis is placed on early child development activities and referrals for children who show signs of delay.  They also have a  supply  of developmental toys and a book lending library. Call 942-5498 or 599-6332 for more information.

Pinellas Healthy Start Federal Project Community Health Education - Free Community Groups, Parenting Classes, Childbirth Education and Community Events.  Classes, groups and events are free and open to the public. You do not need to be in the Healthy Start Program to participate. For more information or to register for groups call 934-5881 Ext 22.

Women's Support - Women, Family & Friends, Community Discussion Groups meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00 pm at the Tarpon Springs Neighborhood Family Center. 

Healthy Start provide services you may need to have a healthy baby.  If you are pregnant and would like to participate in the Healthy Start home visitation program, call the Pinellas County Health Department at 727-824-6900.

Rentals

The Union Academy Family Center auditorium is available for rent during the weekends and some evenings based on availability. Fees are $10 per hour, plus $9 per hour custodial fee.  A $25 dollar deposit is required at the time of application. Other fees may be added based on services rendered. Fees must be paid one week in advance of event. Applications are available at the center.  For more information call 934-5881 ext. 0.

Senior Services

Neighborly Senior Services -Dining Program   provides a nutritious lunch for seniors. There are also programs that include guest speaker, crafts, bingo, exercise, sing-a-longs and birthday celebrations.   Lunch is served every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:30 -1:30 p.m.  Participants  must be 60 years of age or have a spouse 60 years or older.  Contact their office at (727) 676-7170, or CAP at 934-5881 Ext. 0, for more information.

Youth Clubs
